Workshops

National Guidelines for the Maintenance of Stormwater Treatment Measures

Available in-person only.

This full-day workshop covers all aspects of Operations & Maintenance for all types of stormwater treatment measures. These Guidelines, adopted by all the Stormwater Industry Associations across the country have become the Australian industry standard and reference document for the maintenance of stormwater assets.

Workshop Overview

The workshop is aimed at Maintenance Managers and Cleaning Contractors, as well as Council staff involved in the sizing, siting and approval of stormwater treatment measures.

The workshop focuses on the O&M Guidelines, that have become the industry standard and reference document for the Maintenance of Stormwater assets. Many Councils are now putting into their cleaning tenders: “cleaning will be done in accordance with the Guidelines for the Maintenance of Stormwater Treatment Measures 2022”. Which therefore means the cleaning contractors bidding for their work will all be bidding on exactly the same scope, plus they will need to have a copy of the Guidelines and be trained up in its use, and this makes Council’s job much easier.

The training covers:

  • The origin and evolution of these new Guidelines
  • Some of the standard terms that everyone need to know
  • Explanation of the format and contents of the Guideline
  • How Councils and How Cleaning Contractors will use these Guidelines
  • Planning and budgeting for Maintenance – what Councils need to know
  • Monitoring of devices – tools, Data Sheets, Cleaning Specs, practical field demonstration & explanation
  • Regular Cleaning and Comprehensive Cleaning – measure by measure
  • Dewatering & Decanting, new devices, Reporting format and content
  • Rectifications, auditing, upgrades & decommissioning
  • Tricks of the trade (so everyone gets a better outcome)
  • One Page Cleaning Specs for all proprietary treatment measures
  • Questions and Answers for everything stormwater

This popular training exposes the myths and problems of the past, and presents a logical and practical way to get the best from Stormwater Treatment Devices.  Whilst not aimed at consultants and DA engineers, it certainly contains a lot of very helpful content for the selection, sizing and siting, and approval of devices for long term reliable solutions. After all, devices that are chosen appropriately, plus are easy and cost effective to maintain…. tend to get maintained! If you have any questions on stormwater treatment, reliability of different devices, ease of cleaning, does MUSIC work or not, how to get better outcomes for the same money…. Then this workshop is for you.

Presenter – Murray Powell

The presenter for this workshop will be Murray Powell, who is Vice President of Stormwater NSW, one of the document authors and General Manager of Optimal Stormwater who are one of the leaders in design/construction/auditing/rectification of stormwater treatment devices.

Developing a New Process to Streamline Stormwater Quality Reporting & Compliance across all stages of Development

Available in-person only.

Presenter: Mircea Stancu, Cleanstormwater

Stormwater quality assessment and compliance are key components of Development Applications (DA) across Australia. Challenges in the current process can incur time and resource costs to both councils and consultants, with sub-optimal results. Traditionally, creating a WSUD report requires Consultants and Councils to spend large amounts of time scouring guidelines for obscure parameters and files, manually entering values in difficult-to-use software, and convoluted optimisation and reporting processes. This leads to submissions that are rife with errors, difficult to verify, and consume precious Council resources to assess, potentially contributing to suboptimal outcomes when WSUD assets are delivered.

This workshop will bring participants together to identify challenges faced by stakeholders in the WSUD assessment and reporting process. The workshop will provide a hands-on experience in using and developing digital automation tools to generate and assess typical WSUD reports as part of the DA process. Participants are then given the opportunity to discuss their experience regarding their processes, typical challenges, and identified improvements. This Workshop aims to provide participants with learnings and examples of how they can develop and implement their own internal processes to streamline WSUD assessments and reporting.

Suitable for:

  • Planning officers, policy makers, WSUD guidelines Authors
  • Council WSUD Engineers & Development Assessment Officers
  • Consultants (Civil, Stormwater, ESD)
